Anticipating Spring? (March ’10)
Trees begin to blossom, there’s pollen in the air (and on my car), weeds are sprouting all over the yard, the brown grass is ever so slowly being replaced by the green shoots, blue bonnets and other flowers are beginning to pop up, the air is filled with a little warmth (and a few more bugs), and we’ve moved our clocks ahead one hour. All of these are indications of Spring arriving.
Most people are looking forward to the change in the season. They are longing for the time they can spend outside working in the yard, planting annuals, playing at the park, tilling the ground for a garden soon to be planted with tomatoes and corn, cleaning up the play-ground, along with the bicycles, and getting out the baseball glove.
As we anticipate the arrival of Spring there is another, more important event that will take place – Easter!
I believe Jesus was anticipating His final days as He made His way, along with His disciples, to Jerusalem for that final Passover. He knew all the events of the Passion Week long before any one of those days came to pass. Jesus knew all the heartache of the betrayal, the beating, and the shame. He knew that His time had finally come. He would be crucified on a cross, buried in a tomb, and resurrected on the third day. He anticipated fulfilling His Father’s purpose for His coming. He came to seek and to save that which was lost and now He would be doing that.
Don’t just anticipate Spring this year. Anticipate and embrace the Easter Season. Many people are thinking about spiritual matters right now, so take advantage of that moment and invite them to church. Our Easter services are a wonderful time of worship and fellowship. The sunrise service will start at 6:30 am, Sunday School at 9:30 am, Worship Service at 10:45 am, followed by a covered-dish dinner in the new Family Life Center along with an Easter egg hunt for the children.
We invite everyone to come and hear about the love of God, the sacrifice of Jesus, and the hope that is offered in Christ this Easter. Will you join us at Sandy Point Bible Church? Don’t just anticipate Spring, anticipate Easter.
